Project52, A Year Long Project

Project 52_1265568023423

This year kicks off a new decade…not only in the new millennium, but also personally.  So, along with other personal growth goals, I decided to take on this project52 to further develop and push my craft.

Sometimes I find myself getting stalled in growing myself within photography.  There were times that I get so busy I lose focus or let my camera just sit without even a full battery charge!  My 2010 goals are different and aggressive, whereas, it’s time to push the button more, teach, get taught and overall produce, produce, produce.  I know how I am personally and a 52 week project of photography would get me on the right path.  And after watching other photographers, especially, Dustin Diaz, do their own 365, I know that my 365 would own me!  I’m already getting a late start on this project (six weeks in)!!

So…what are my rules?  I really want to do more personal work and continue to push my events/portraits work, so let’s be aggressive in my goals!  Here we go!

  1. Keep a camera with me! This is easy…but I don’t’ always get to do this, so the camera on my phone will have to step in sometimes.
  2. Use my hybrid camera more. I used to be an AV tech producing video and editing…it’s been a long time since going deep on video, so time to step into HD.
  3. Go beyond people. I LOVE taking photos of people through my regular events, portrait and fashion work…but since this is a personal project, I will look to shooting more landscapes, products and objects.
  4. Have fun! Photography has taken me places and I would never want something that I am passionate about to feel like it’s work!  That’s just wrong.  I’m going to step outside of myself and push to capture what I haven’t been able to!

Apple’s iPad: Five reasons to get one (or not)

The Apple iPad

Last week, Apple released their latest product, the iPad.  The name isn’t so hot, but so what.  I watched the keynote and I-want-one.  I didn’t jump on the iPhone bandwagon (I usually don’t with tech) until I grabbed a iPod Touch.  And the uses that I’ve been able to have with just this iPod has been tremendous!  With the now bigger version of the iPod Touch, the iPad, I can fully integrate it into my workflow for both photography and web development…but what else?  Here’s my list of reasons to get or not get the Apple iPad:

  1. Beautiful Display! This is  a given.  Can you imagine the pleasure on a client’s face when they see the final product in their hands visually and physically?!  Just a winner! GET IT.
  2. A little limited. If are willing to jump the hoops: it comes with WiFi, and with 3G for $130 more…then you have to purchase access with your internet company to experience 3G.  No flash support, except youtube.  So no cool flashy sites for your iPad.  It also only comes with max 64G solid state space…so you gotta have a main machine.  MAYBE GET IT.
  3. Great for other industries! Ok…not only will this product nearly singlehandedly save the newspaper industry, imagine how effective this will be for hospital use or being in class!  I wish again I was going to be an 18 year old freshman this fall!! GET IT!
  4. I don’t use Mac. This just sucks for you.  Stop fighting it.  Come to the good side of computing.  WHATEVER.
  5. Completely mobile. Apple gets it.  Steve Jobs even said it, “…We are a mobile devices company.”, if the thought of mobility for accessing what you want, when you want and how you want intrigues you.  Then this is the final product to complete your mobile circle.  GET IT.

All in all, the iPad is the start of the future that we all have wished for since the days of Star Trek and Star Wars.  Granted, we’re not on hoverboards yet, but the iPad is a start.  -e

STACKimage.com

STACKimageI recently launched my new companion site, STACKimage.com a photo resource site I built to accommodate  the many requests for copies of my photos that I have taken at the many events covered.

As the site grows, I will look to bring other photographers aboard to showcase (or sell) their work to a large network of art buyers and potential clients.

The site will continue to grow and develop through social networking and word of mouth, but you should visit and bookmark it so you know where to get photos I take of you!

Enjoying the moments via Dominican Republic

dom_rep

Happy New Year! 2010 is here!

Two weeks ago, I was in the Dominican Republic enjoying sun, fun and more sun! Sitting on the beach, Christmas day, gave me plenty of relaxing thoughts but I couldn’t help to think about my next moves as they related to photography.

DR reminded me to enjoy the moments–large, small, short or long. Simply because it’s those moments, just like in this photo, that reminds me of how content i was as i felt the soft sand under my feet and salty waves crashing up to my waist.

Take in this photo and make 2010 your year to enjoy the moments.
