The month of May holds a special place in my heart as it’s Foster Care Awareness Month.
As someone who experienced the foster care system firsthand, I know the importance of support, love, and understanding. Let’s raise awareness and support for every child in need of a loving home.
Below are 5 ways you can make a difference:
💙 Volunteer. Offering up your time can work wonders! I can’t tell you how effective it was for me get away from the constant reminders of my situation while in foster care. Many of those memories are still with me.
💙 Advocate. Encourage others to advocate for policy improvements, security, and increased resources for the foster care system.
💙 Support. Lend a hand to foster parents in your community. Foster parents have to regularly manage individual challenges and offering your time or support can help.
💙 Share. Help spread awareness by sharing posts like this encouraging others to learn more about the challenges faced by foster children and families.
💙 Donate. In addition to monetary support, there are a LOT of other ways to offer support—clothes, vehicles, toys, educational tools, sporting equipment—etc. I have always found that working with an organization that best speaks to you and developing a relationship can help discover what their needs are.
